OmniGraffle 2 App Reviews

You can create curved lines

The other review is false. You can create curved lines. Omnigraffle has a Bézier curve tool. It is =, however, hidden in the custom line styles menu.

What is wrong??

This app does not work correctly. At all. Its exhausting. Frustrating. Crappy.

So Worth It

Love this vector drawing app! Even at $50 for an upgrade. Smooth, responsive, clean. Love using their cloud for safekeeping as well. My go-to app is on my iPad (and now iPhone too).

Better value for (high) price with universal apps

Glad to see the universal app without further IAP/costs, but I still have concern about the lack of integration between the (at least equally expensive) Omni apps and how many expensive upgrades will be between now and then. For now, as this is my first version purchased, I am satisfied with the value. However, if the next paid version comes before some significant catch-up in capabilities (Dropbox, inter-Omni-app sharing, etc) Ill be reluctant to stay.

Ingenious Drafting app for iOS

Very high degree of compatibility with the desktop version. Export options (Pro) really useful in a pinch on the road. Usability takes a moment to get accustomed too but then allows for a steady workflow. Being able to use my custom stencils from the desktop version makes this the only tool on iOS that allows me to create complex diagrams that fully adhere to our corporate identity.

confused & disillusioned ?!

Im a long time Omni customer. I have all their Apps on my laptop. I like the functionality, but, Im only an occasional user. Upgrades that cost as much as the original App are unacceptable! I bought OmniGraffle 1 for the iPad, but it doesnt even print, or sync properly? I have no way to share data with the legacy Apps? Now, they expect me to pay full price for an upgrade? I think they need a smarter business plan. Charge half as much, and sell three times as many... to happy customers. And provide real functionality without the games.

Ripoff

If I nurse it along and navigate slowly, I can keep omnigraffle running for around five minutes before it crashes. If I move at a more normal pace I can crash it in under a minute. Symbol search is completely broken and never shows any matches, regardless of what the term is. I paid way too much for this buggy, incomplete software.

Fantastic app

Creating diagrams feels to me like one of those things that is just better to do with touch and this app makes it happen. I love it.

Good, but NO DROPBOX?

First of all hats off to omnigroup for a wonderful port to iOS making omnigraffle usable even on my iPhone! It definitely is pricey at $50USD but its a quality app. Much planning and foresight went into making the UI as seamless as possible. The main thing that irks me is the only option to sync files is via omnigraffles WebDAV servers? Its an antiquated protocol that never really took off and requires manual configuration on OS X. Overall its just a pain. Omnigroup, just bite the bullet and add in Dropbox support will you? You can also dump the overhead of having to run/support your own WebDAV infra. Please, I beseech you! Just freakin do it.

Nice facelift but...

Let me say the simultaneous release of the new version, sudden end of support for the original version, and the mysteriously coincidential guaranteed crashing of said original version was expertly executed. Kudos. In a future update, can you please return the import of png images WITH their original background transparency as opposed to a solid white background? It would be great if we could get this original feature back, especially since we had to basically pay to lose it. Another great feature from the original you could return is the ability to import more than one image at a time. (You now require us to dig in a menu again and again for each image we want to import. Before we just had to select image after image once we were looking at our image library.) Thanks.

Powerful, but expensive and buggy

First of all, the app experience is quite pleasant. Making a mobile version of this type of app is tough. However, few things are off. For starters, there are bugs: e.g. rotated objects such as text do not hold their orientation and revert back to 0° as soon as you either change its position or simply close and reopen your diagram. Second, the idea of syncing with WebDAV is so 1995 its not even funny. There is a better solution: DropBox and/or Google Drive. I have to be harsh on my review because when you spend $50 on a mobile app, your expectations are obviously much higher. I expected little things like orientation actually sticking to be a non-issue. Fix the bugs, broaden the horizon, and Id give this a 5 star review.

Buggy, but mostly good when it works

It is nice to be able to have some sort of Visio-like capability on my iPad. I also appreciate that Omni is a long-time Mac/iOS developer. I understand that development isnt cheap. I have shelled out a good amount of money for the app. But, I have to say that this is, by far, the buggiest app I have ever worked with on iOS. I have been in communication with the company a couple of times, and even tried to talk to someone on the phone by calling the company directly. At this point, I just have to accept that this is a buggy app, and they do not share any plans about planned features, or fixes. Expect bugginess, crashes, and compatibility issues working with Visio documents. No real SVG import capability. Also, there are missing features, like the ability to have a shapes text label be placed below, instead of on, the shape. Text does not snap to shapes, either. We deserve so much more for the money, but unless and until Omni re-writes this app, or a competitor (like Lucid Chart) gets its act together, we are stuck. I can tacitly recommend this app only if you REALLY need/want diagramming capability on the iPad. Expect head and heartache, though.

Inconceivably Buggy

The app constantly crashes on my iPad pro. Ive lost work at least 7 times in the past half hour. Co workers ask me why I dont do quick and dirty mock ups on PowerPoint. Because.. Because.. After this, my coworkers were right. Omni, come on, if youre targeting the professional, you have to step up your stability game. You making me look silly for using your app. If you have an iPad pro, I would hold off on buying this until you see the version log address the issue regarding constant crashing.

Amazing Drafting app.

I have used Omnigraffle Pro on my Mac to make isometric line and assembly drawings for a number of years. I recently downloaded Version 2.5.1 for my iPad Air 2. Last night I realised that I had to make significant changes to an assembly drawing that I had created on my Mac and stored on iCloud Drive. I was able to retrieve it on my iPad and make all my required modifications with ease. I was very surprised how the interface has been adapted to accommodate touch screen implementation. It is very well done.

Lost data multiple times

I lost my work several times now on the iPad Pro. Most times it’s an app crash related to an Undo process, but several times I have lost data with not app crash. If you need to do critical work, this app is not for you. I have sent in multiple bug reports throughout the course of two full days using the app. I am bit surprised by the number of strange bugs, but I feel confident that the Omni Group will find and squash them, but unfortunately, I need a diagramming app now and will likely revert to the Mac version. (Full disclosure: I’m writing this review immediately after losing my changes and another hour.)

What an amazing update!

Ive used OmniGraffle on the Mac for years, and jumped on the first OmniGraffle for iPad when it came out. I found it a good backup, but a tad cumbersome to use, so didnt regret the purchase but also didnt use it much. When I got an iPad pro, I was immediately looking again for something to help make technical diagrams. I found this update, mandatory with IOS 9, and it is 100% worth it. The add-in free "pro" upgrade for the 1.x users was a lovely benefit, but regardless of the pro features, the update is amazing. Its much cleaner and easier to use, navigation to options is clearer, and the overall flow doesnt feel disjointed at all. On the iPad Pro, with that additional screen real-estate, the application is glorious - pencil in hand or just with touch. The tap and select mechanisms feel crisper and more responsive, which makes working with large diagrams quickly even easier. I do miss loading in my own stencils from the Mac desktop days, but in practice I dont really use all that many, so Im not finding that to really be a loss. The pro features that are added on totally take it through the win. I dont need Visio import, although its nice to know its there, but the shape merging tools - something Ive loved from early days with Adobe Illustrator - is incredibly useful for the detailed designs, and worth the whole set (to me) for that functionality alone. For a tool on the iPad Pro to make a technical diagram, OmniGraffle is now my top go-to application.

Very disappointed

I have used this app on the Mac a bit and rather like it. I was very excited by the apple pencil support and bought an iPad pro, pencil, and this application specifically to do software diagrams on the go... Horrible experience. Shape recognition is much better on the free Paper app--so I quickly gave up hope of using shape recognition. The drawing experience is even worse. You can double click the tool icon to "lock" it. But try to draw a couple of squares and write a bit of text and youll be locking like crazy... In other words, it simply will not stay locked. I dont know if it is the tapping the pencil does during normal writing or if it is the contact my hand makes with the screen when I use the pencil. In any case, I have now used 4 pencil-aware apps (paper, sketch, Evernote and this) and the other three are great. If you expect to use apple pencil, with this app, in this version, then you will be sorely disappointed. It is absolutely useless and I would not use it if it were free...

Losing Work is Unacceptable

Have been using for three weeks with iPad Pro and pencil. Would rate 3-4 stars based on usability and functionality. Unfortunately, I have several instances of lost work. Maybe 1 of 10 times that you go to the Library - say to print a doc - when you go back into the document, it has randomly reverted to some previous save point. Today I lost an hours of work on a diagram and I almost threw the pad across the room. Very sloppy engineering, saving state is job one... Will not be using anymore.

Absolute crap

This is the worst app ever. I never thought that I would actually wish that Microsoft would throw their hat in the ring and introduce Visio into the iOS world, but here we are. This app is a piece of crap. 50 dollars and it doesnt really do anything. I guess Ill never get my money back for this, so be warned; this app is worthless DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON IT! Visio is far more intuitive than this app. For the love of God, dont waste your money!

Pretty awesome if you ask me

I have no use for Visio integration/compatibility, so I can speak to those features of this app. What I can say is that Omnigraffle is a really solid vector diagramming app on both the iPhone and iPad. It isnt quite as easy to use as the desktop app, but then again you are using your fingertip instead of a mouse pointer to position elements. The fact that I can even consider content creation on an iPhone is an indication (to me) that Omnigraffle has a hit with this app. Bottom line - if you have reasonable expectations then I think youll be pleased with Omnigraffle on iOS.
